How to Determine Cardiac Arrest Codes

!±8± How to Determine Cardiac Arrest Codes

Cardiac Arrest Code or CAC is also widely known as Code Blue. Generally, this code is being utilized to indicate that a patient is requiring immediate resuscitation as result of cardiac arrest. This is a signal or call for the medical practitioner or expert to report to the site immediately and deliver what needs to be delivered instantly.

The Code Blue may also be used as a radio call to point out that a patient in transit to the hospital will need emergency resuscitation. Code Blue Adult and Code Blue Pediatric were as well utilized to provide additional information on the patient that requires medical attention.

The Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) suggested that these codes be replace with "Code Blue" to refer to adult patient needing immediate resuscitation and "Code White" tp refer to children needing immediate and appropriate resuscitation.

It was in the year 2000 when the Hospital Association of Southern Califronia called and highlighted the importance for a universal and standard code system. This was after the incident when three persons were killed in a shooting tragedy at a medical area right after the wrong emergency code was announced. In this view that the Hospital Association of Southern California published the handbook with the title of Healthcare Facility Emergency Codes: A Guide for Code Standardization." They listed on the guideline the listings of different codes that were strongly recommended to other hospitals to voluntarily implement the same. Three year after, in 2003, Maryland ordered that all acute hospitals in the state use and utilize uniform codes.

There are other codes that are referring to the Cardiac Arrest. In Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City, the code "Plan Blue" is being used to refer to the arrival of a trauma patient who is critically injured that a second stop in the Emergency Room will cause a fatal death for the patient. This Plan Blue code also calls and alerts surgeon on call to instantaneously proceed to the Emergency Room. In some hospitals in the United States of America, Code Blue has been changed to Code 99 while Code 45 is the code for children.
